Meet A Mountaineer

Congratulations to Lori Long who was named the VFW Teacher of the Year at the local, district, and state levels! Mrs. Long is a true example of #MountsPride! She has taught for nearly 34 years at EASD and served in every one of our elementary schools. This is a very well deserved recognition, especially as she looks forward to retirement at the end of this school year.

On Paraprofessional Appreciation Day, we extend a sincere thank you to these Mountaineers who go above and beyond every day. Their job is not an easy one, and we appreciate their hard work and dedication to making a difference in students' lives!

REMINDER: Students' spring break begins tomorrow Thursday, March 28 and runs through Monday, April 1. EASD offices will be closed on Friday, March 20 only. Best wishes for a safe and happy break. We will look forward to having students back on Tuesday, April 2.

On National Employee Appreciation Day, we are sending a massive shout-out of appreciation to our Mountaineer team who consistently go above and beyond every day to support both students and their colleagues. Thank you, Mountaineers, for your exceptional efforts!

The Shadow A Student Challenge was in full swing this week as EASD administrators collaborated with students to explore the question: What is it like to be a student for a day? Engaging with empathy and an open mind, administrators actively embraced the student perspective. They will subsequently reflect on these experiences to ensure that #EASDLifeReady learning is successfully carried out.

Akron first-graders are learning how biblioburros, packhorse librarians, boats, camels, and more bring books to children around the world. Although there were no four-legged deliveries here, Akron students loved their special bookmobile visit from the Lancaster Library.

Our hearts go out to the EASD families and community members impacted by today's fire at Martin's Country Market. We are grateful to the hundreds of firefighters and emergency personnel - many who speak regularly in our classrooms - for the bravery and grit they showed today.
We support a resilient Mountaineer community and believe in the strength and empathy that will prevail.

We all know today is Valentine’s Day, but did you also know it’s National Random Acts of Kindness Week? Our students are engaged in a variety of daily activities to bring these important #EASDLifeReady lessons to life!

Our Mountaineers created hundreds of valentines (500 from EMS alone) as part of the Blue Ridge Touch a Heart initiative. Students’ encouraging messages will be delivered to local nursing home residents and hospital patients, as well as Veterans and soldiers.

We love hearing from our students! Our Student Engagement Facilitators' ongoing efforts to increase student voice, engagement, and belonging recently included group discussions to learn what is going well and what more can be done to help students feel successful now and in the future.

Today five teams - out of 39 - presented K'Nex concepts to a panel of judges to determine who will move on in the competition. From predator detection, trash collection & more, students embodied #EASDLifeReady traits to build prototypes to positively impact the farming industry.
