Where in the World is .........?

In early December, 30 middle school students went head to head in a heated competition to see who would be crowned the Geography Bee Champion. Previously, all intermediate and middle school students took a written qualifying test in November, and the top 15 scorers from each grade were then invited to participate in the Geography Bee (30 participants in each of the Bees at the Intermediate and Middle School).
The 30 participants went through 7 rounds of challenging questions that narrowed the field down to the semi -finalists.  Those semi finalists were faced with even tougher questions!  The top two semi finalists proceeded to the championship round.  At that point the winner becomes the student who answers the most correctly out of 3 questions.
For the Intermediate School, 6th grader Jannah Martin emerged as the winner over 5th grader Trevor Lawrence. In the Middle School, 8th grader David Kitch was the winner, and 8th grader Julie Wiker was the runner-up.
Now Martin and Kitch will get to take a written test to see if they can qualify for the state level Geography Bee. Only 100 students qualify per state.  The National competition will take place  May 25-26, 2010 in Washington, D.C, and the grand prize winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship!
