Student Winners in Reflections Contest

Students from Fulton Elementary School recently participated in Reflections, a nationally sponsored PTA program designed to encourage individual creativity, self-expression, and exploration of the arts.  They submitted original photographs, visual arts, and written entries to be judged according to the 2009-10 theme, “Beauty is...”
Their artwork captured many ideas of what beauty is:  pictures of nature, a soldier’s sacrifice, the American flag, a self-portrait, castles, family, faith and the world.  Each artist wrote a statement explaining their idea and why they felt it represented beauty.
Local judges chose fifteen out of the forty-one Fulton student entries to advance to the regional level.  Out of those 15, four Fulton students, Justin Brubaker, Wyatt Farrington,  Abigail Kachel, and Thomas Petrecca, placed in the top 3 in their division and will next be judged against other students from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.   Winners on the state level will advance one final time, facing entries from all 50 states as the competition culminates when national winners are announced in the spring.
The Reflections participants from Fulton Elementary are pictured with their awards, presented on January 14 at the annual Fulton PTA Reflections awards reception.  Mr. Gary Oberly, principal, was on hand to present the awards while over 70 family members proudly applauded each student’s creativity and effort.  The Fulton PTA would like to again congratulate each student who participated in the Reflections program.
