Friday, October 10, 2008, Akron Elementary held a tree planting ceremony for Brandon Loose, a student who recently lost his battle with cancer.
Friends and family gathered while students filed outside at 2:00pm. Principal Enrica Gerhart made a speech in remembrance of Brandon. Brandon's cousin and close friends broke ground for the tree.
In previous years, Akron students completed Laps for Loose, which was a fundraiser done by the school for the Loose family. Friday while the tree was being planted the kids made their final Lap for Loose, walking the entire property of the school.
The tree was donated by Keith Brenneman, owner of Brenneman's Landscaping. A plaque, purchased by the Akron PTO, will be placed inside the school and below the tree in Brandon's commemoration.
