On March 12 in Akron's gymnasium, the Kindergarten classes participated in a Hands on House program. The gym was decorated with different games and activities that taught the students about environmental protection and recycling. If the students saw a recyclable item with a sticker on it, they would submit it to the teacher and receive a job well done.
Different stations were set up with little activities and crafts for the students to do to learn about conserving the environment. One of the stations was a pen-making craft where the students made pens that were in the form of a bird. They were decorated with feathers and bird faces.
The second station that was laid out was an insect-learning activity. Little learning pads were scattered across a grassy board that contained information about each insect. After the students read about each insect, they would dig around in the grass on the board to find one.
Last of all, the third station that was set up was a rainforest tree with different animals on it. At this station, the students' task was to take off all the animals and then only put on the creatures that lived in the trees. The stuffed animals made noises that helped the Kindergarteners tell which animal it was.
