In honor of February being dental health month, all of the first graders at Akron Elementary School attended a dental hygiene assembly presented by Dr. Eby, who is a dentist himself. His assistant, Melissa, also came to Akron with him.
Dr. Eby started off the program by asking the students questions concerning what they know about cavities, baby/adult teeth, and dental hygiene. Some of these questions were "How many times a day should you brush your teeth?" and "What should we eat and drink that is good for our dental health?" He showed the students how you should brush and floss with a model of a set of teeth.
Afterwartds the students participated in a little experiment. The experiment began with eggs being soaked in soda the previous night. During the assembly, Dr. Eby had the students divide into groups, give them an egg, and brush it with toothpaste and a toothbrush to get the stained soda off. Also at the end of the assembly, Dr. Eby handed out goody bags with toothbrushes, floss, mouth sanitizer, and a booklet with important information about oral hygiene.
