The 4th grade class at Akron Elementary participated in their third week of the Anti-Smoking Program. Mrs. Sharon Czabafy came in from Ephrata Community Hospital to talk to the students about bad things that have consequences and how to say no to temptation of crimes or harmful activities.
This important skill would come in handy not just for times that the students would be tempted with smoking, but with other situations that could get them into trouble. The students came up with examples of these situations like stealing and lying to your parents.
Mrs. Czabafy had the fourth graders break into groups of 3 and perform short skits using their hand out that they received about practicing refusal skills and self-control. Each person in the group took turns of playing the roles of the coach, troublemaker, and the person who was being tempted. Their next anti-smoking lesson will be on Monday, March 2, where they will continue to learn how and why to say no to mischief.
