Web Highlight Rubric

   One of the major responsibilities as a webmaster for the school's web site is to report on various activities at your school.  These reports are called highlights and may be about special events, assemblies, or classroom activities and they are the most important part of your web site.  Highlights that change frequently will be the biggest drawing card of your site.  They make it interesting and dynamic.
   The highlights that you create for the web site will be graded according to the rubric below.  Pay special attention to the details so that you can create an interesting and technically correct page.

Page
Elements

The page is missing most or all of the necessary elements. The page is missing two or more of the necessary elements. The page is missing one of the necessary elements. Page contains headline, byline, dateline, photos, navigation buttons, appropriate background

Photos

Photos are missing or are very poor. The photo(s) are not clear, poorly composed, do not relate well to the story, and do not have alternative text. The photos are clear, well composed, relate well to the story, but are missing  alternative text or the text is poorly written. The photos are clear, well composed, relate well to the story, and have well written  alternative text.

Word

There is more than one grammatical error and the story is not interesting.  No apparent attempt at making the story fun to read. There is a grammatical error. The story may or may not be written well. While the story is correct grammatically, it is not written interestingly.  No attention getting intro. The story is grammatically correct.  There is an interesting introduction.  The body of the story answers "who, what, where, and when" in an interesting fashion and all the facts are correct.

Posting

The highlight was not advertised on the school's homepage with both text and photo or was not done so in a timely manner.  The highlight was not posted on the district site. The highlight is advertised on the school's homepage with both text and photo.  However, the highlight was not posted on the district site or was not posted on the school's site in a timely manner. The highlight is advertised on the school's homepage ASAP.  It has both text and photo.  The highlight may not be posted on the district site ASAP or doesn't have a photo in the proper location.  The district photo is missing a drop-shadow or alternative text or a caption.  The previous highlight may not have been moved to the top of the highlights list and the highlight on the bottom of the list may not have been deleted. The highlight is advertised on the school's homepage ASAP.   It has both text and photo.  The highlight is posted on the district site ASAP with a photo in the proper location.  The district photo is to have a drop-shadow, alternative text, and a caption.  The previous highlight has been moved to the top of the highlights list and the highlight on the bottom of the list is deleted.
