About Mrs. Fryberger

Chemistry Home

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Fryberger.

Personal Info:
I was born in Lancaster, PA and grew up a few miles west of Millersville.  I started playing the violin at the age of 4 and the flute in fifth grade.  I married my husband in July 2002. He works as a compliance officer with the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority.  Our oldest son, Heath, was born in April 2004.  He is currently learning to fish and ride an actual bicycle (no more tricycles)!  Our youngest son, Owen, was born in April 2008.  He has been eating solid food since he was a month-and-a-half old!  We live on a small farm in Creswell, a town west of Millersville (only a half-mile from where I spent my elementary school years).

I was a woodwind instructor for the Penn Manor Marching Unit for five years and taught violin lessons for three.  I was also a sprinter in high school and college, and a sprinting coach during my student-teaching at Conestoga Valley High School.  I enjoy reading, listening to audio books, camping, hunting, lounging on our balcony, playing with both of my sons, and gardening in my free time.  And I, of course, love making fireballs!!!

Education:
I attended school in the Penn Manor School District.  I graduated from Penn Manor High School in 1997 where I was a sprinter on the track team and played the flute and fiddle for the marching unit.  I graduated from Millersville University with a B.S. Chemistry (with an Environmental Chemistry focus), and went back the following summer for my Secondary Teaching Certificate.  I completed my student teaching at Conestoga Valley High School.  I am currently working on a Master's degree in Environmental Science (which will be through Millersville University).  I have taught chemistry at Ephrata High School for six years.

My Mission:
When I was studying chemistry in college, it amazed me that so many people told me how awful chemistry class was for them.  They told me that they didn't connect chemistry with their everyday lives and that it was too difficult.  These comments gave me focus for my professional career.

Chemistry is all around us: it's in the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink.  I believe that if I can connect chemistry topics to students' everyday lives, that chemistry will become easier and more enjoyable.  This is the emphasis for every course that I teach.

"Believe It or Not:"
I still hold the 100-meter school record at Penn Manor High School (set in 1996)!
I have shot more buck than my husband.  I also gut my own deer!
