MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of the Washington Educational Center is to offer an alternative program to earn a high school diploma.

ELIGIBILITY
Young adults between the ages of 17 and 20 who have dropped out of school and reside in the Ephrata Area School district are eligible to apply for admission to the program.   With administrative approval, students currently enrolled in Ephrata High School may be admitted.  High school aged students outside the Ephrata Area School District must have the approval of the school district they attend or most recently attended.   Adult students, 21 years of age or older, may apply for admission on a tuition basis.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES
Before being admitted to WEC, a prospective student must complete an application, have a transcript of previous high school grades sent to WEC, and take an entrance exam.   The applicant must score at least at the eight grade level before beginning the high school program for credit.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
To graduate from WEC, a student must successfully complete a minimum of 21 credits in the following subject areas:

English 4 credits
Social Studies 3 credits
Mathematics 3 credits
Science 3 credits
Arts and Humanities 2 credits
Health and PE 1 credit
Electives 5 credits

Electives include additional work in the required subject areas as well as computer skills, career awareness, life skills, work experience, service learning, and consumer education.

Students must prove a high school competency before being graduated.
