EASD Health Advisory Committee (HAC)

The Ephrata Area School District Health Advisory Committee (HAC) is a team of school educators and administrators, school nurses, parents, community members, and student leaders working in partnership to improve the health and well-being of the school community.  Committee members meet several times a year and work as advocates for healthy behaviors and a healthy environment – for students and staff.

HAC is comprised of three sub-committees

  1. Food and Nutrition

  2. Physical Education, Health & Wellness

  3. District-Wide Initiatives

HENRY THE HAND

In conjunction with the impending cold and flu season, the EASD Health Service Department offered various lessons to students on proper handwashing techniques. During the week of December 4, Henry the Hand visited Fulton and Highland Elementary Schools.

This is a part of National Handwashing Awareness Week. EASD uses posters, classroom activities (crossword puzzles, word searches, and more as the teacher wants to use them). A large Henry the Hand was also placed near our entrances to capture the students interest and intrigue their curiosity. Henry the Hand was created in 1999 by Dr. Sawyer to promote illness reduction by promoting good hand washing techniques.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FITNESS

The elementary schools in EASD have incorporated stationary bikes into their Wellness and Physical Education Program.  The goal is to have all students active for the majority of the class period.
